The Best Anki Spanish Decks (2026): Five Picks, Verified Today

An Anki Spanish deck is a shared file you download from AnkiWeb and review on Anki's scheduler. Each listing shows the same three facts: the note count, the audio and image tallies, and the date the author last touched it. I pulled AnkiWeb's Spanish search results today, September 16, 2026, and checked every promising deck on its own page, because this corner of the internet is thick with listicles pointing at decks that moved or died. The most-reviewed result tells you the shape of the market. Spanish Top 5000 Vocabulary carries 578 ratings and 5,001 notes against an October 2017 update date: old winners, uneven maintenance. So, the verdict before the details. Download the frequency classic or its 2025 refresh, add the conjugation deck if verbs are where you stalled, treat medical Spanish as its own purchase. 1. Spanish Top 5000 Vocabulary: the most-reviewed classic

Five hundred seventy-eight ratings make this the most-reviewed Spanish deck on today's listing, and none of its neighbors come close. It is a frequency-ordered deck of 5,001 notes (forward and reverse cards), each note pairing a Spanish word with a picture and recorded audio on all but about fifty, last updated 2017-10-14. The author's own description:

Fit: your first Spanish deck, full stop; the top few thousand words by frequency is the right core for nearly everyone. Know before you commit: the images were "selected automatically from search and then reviewed later," in the author's words, so some are off-target, and a deck bundling 5,000 pictures wears its 2017 age in its file size and its image quality. It has been the default answer for most of a decade, which also means nobody is fixing it now.

2. New Spanish Top 5000 Vocabulary: the 2025 refresh

Same list, newer hands. This rebuild, updated 2025-01-23, keeps the 5,001-note frequency spine and the 4,948 audio clips but swaps the auto-searched pictures for example sentences, two per card, in Spanish and English (the sample entries for *después* and *charla* show both). Nine ratings against the original's 578: better card design, a fraction of the reputation.

One more listing worth decoding while you shop: the frequency deck with the freshest update date at real scale is called Spanisch 5000 (165 ratings, refreshed 2026-03-28, 7,500 notes), and it is excellent. *Spanisch* is German for Spanish; the card fields are Deutsch and Spanisch, and I checked the sample notes. Unless German is your base language, the English-fronted decks above are your lane.

Fit: you want the classic's coverage with modern cards, or you tried the original and bounced off the images. Know before you commit: a young deck's errata get fixed in public; expect an occasional wrong tag rather than a decade of polish.

3. 9000 Spanish sentences: the sentence track

Words in isolation are half a language, and this deck is the other half. 9,263 sentence cards, updated 2019-10-22, every one carrying native audio, ordered from easy to hard by the frequency of the rarest word in each sentence.

The sorting rule, again in the author's words, ranks each sentence "by finding the rank of the least common word in the Spanish sentence from a frequency list on Wiktionary," so difficulty ramps instead of jumping.

Fit: you have roughly a thousand words and want reading and listening mileage, or you want Clozemaster-style cloze practice in a file you own. Know before you commit: the audio is one speaker from central Spain, so your ear will learn peninsular rhythms, not Mexican or Colombian ones; and the deck repeats conjugated verb forms a lot, which trains recognition of endings more than new vocabulary.

4. Ultimate Spanish Conjugation: verbs, all of them

Conjugation is where Spanish loses more learners than vocabulary ever does, and one deck exists for exactly that fight. Ultimate Spanish Conjugation (Lisardo's KOFI Method) is 4,246 cloze cards, 163 ratings, updated 2023-08-15. Announcing it, he wrote:

The sample cards show what the machine generated: a prompt with one form blanked, a field of similar verbs in the same family, and notes citing the dictionary (DLE) on how irregular the pattern is. The samples include voseo forms, so Rioplatense learners are served too.

Fit: verbs are your wall; run this beside a vocabulary deck, because it teaches forms, not meanings. Know before you commit: no audio and no images, it is a text-only drill, and at 4,246 cloze cards it is a months-long commitment on its own.

5. Garza's Medical Spanish Anki Deck: the clinician's deck

Medicine gets its own searches, and most results in that niche are 30-card phrase lists. The one worth your time is Garza's Medical Spanish Anki Deck (Mexican Spanish, V1), created by Erick Garza, updated 2024-01-19, with 1,000 notes and 1,003 audio clips. The description is unusually specific:

> "This is a 1000 term Medical Spanish Anki deck created by Erick Garza. It contains three levels of difficulty from beginner to advanced Spanish. ... Topics range from GenSurg, OBGYN, Psych to Pharm and Nutrition." — AnkiWeb listing

The sample cards are exactly what a hospital needs: *Odontogram*, *gestational diabetes*, *vancomycin*, front to back, with audio on the answer side. A 2025 review on the page reads "This is a very good deck, thank you so much!"

Fit: nursing or med students, residents, and clinicians seeing Spanish-speaking patients; Mexican Spanish is the dialect US practice most often meets. Know before you commit: three ratings, so you are early; and V1 is a starter set, so plan to capture ward-specific vocabulary yourself.

How do you vet a Spanish deck you've never heard of?

Run four checks before committing months.

1. Update date against rating count — a 2017 deck with 578 ratings is a tested fossil; a fresh deck with three ratings is a bet.
2. Front language, because the best-maintained big deck on the listing is German-fronted.
3. The audio's dialect, against the Spanish you will actually hear.
4. The intake arithmetic: 5,001 notes at 20 new cards a day is 250 days before the deck is "done."

That last check is the one I care about most, so here is the same triage run through my own tool's import flow, with the real numbers. Paste a Spanish word list, or drop a PDF of one, and the tool answers with a ranked checklist. A short list hands back its twenty-odd leaders; a long document gets mined section by section and can propose up to 100. Every row wears a study-worth tag of high, medium, or low, with the high tier pre-checked. A single confirm takes at most 40 of them; the way further in is pasting more of the list. The tags rank study-worth, and they carry no idea what high school Spanish left in your head, so crossing those off is on you — a 1,000-term medical build comes to roughly 1,000 energy, with the meter running one unit per kept card. The deck that isn't on AnkiWeb

No shared deck has any idea which of the 5,000 words are already yours, and none will ever ship the Spanish you personally hear this week. That half of the language does not download; it gets collected where you found it. Captions on YouTube. Any Spanish upload with a caption track lists the transcript cue by cue in the extension. Pick a line and the proposals draw on that line alone — the word, its meaning, a worked example. Confirming enrolls at most 20 cards per press, and each saved card keeps its origin: come review time, the video returns, paused at the moment the line was spoken. Paste and PDF. The import flow described above, same in Spanish as in the other languages.

Audio and video files. Since September 7, 2026, the upload path processes all seven of the app's target languages, Spanish included: Spanish-language audio you own can take the same route, transcribing in Spanish and feeding the same candidate flow.

What does not work. The double-click popup dictionary does not work for Spanish. The extension ships offline dictionary files for Japanese, Korean, and Chinese only; Spanish has no data file, so the popup does not open at all. If a hover dictionary is the feature you want most, install with that fact in front of you.

All of it schedules on FSRS-6, locked to its defaults; Anki's own app runs this generation too, and there is nothing to tune and nothing to misconfigure. Anki itself remains free and excellent.
